The office of Richmond, VA, was set up by AEC in 1987, to serve clients in the eastern and southern parts of the United States.

At present, the office develops multi-disciplinary engineering services, principally in industrial and technological processes projects. In due course, the other IDOM departments will contribute all their strengths.

With respect to industrial sectors, AEC has worked in the petrochemical, paper, mining, pharmaceutical, refining, metal and energy sectors, as well as many other sectors.

Waste Treatment

Crude Oil Terminal Upgrade

AEC worked closely with Hercules, Incorporated staff to provide full-service engineering design and project management services associated with removing a lagoon-style waste treatment pond and installation of a new waste treatment facility at their Franklin, VA, facility.

AEC Engineering provided project management, total design and construction monitoring services for a $2.5MM project consisting of complete foundation replacement and tank reconditioning for two - 200,000 BBL crude oil storage tanks at a crude oil storage terminal for Husky Oil.

Industrial Water Conditioning Plant

Process Ducting Design

When faced with an environmental compliance order affecting its industrial wastewater discharge, a pharmaceutical manufacturer hired AEC Engineering to design a pre-treatment system that would accommodate the wide ranges of contaminants and water volumes generated in the facility. In an accelerated program, AEC evaluated several alternative technologies, oversaw the installation of a pilot-test package, and then designed a full-scale system employing state-of-the-art bio-digestion. Our services included construction monitoring and start-up assistance.

AEC provided detailed engineering design, analysis and shop drawing production for a complex system of multiple large diameter pressure ducts associated with construction of a new soda ash mine in Colorado. The advanced analysis included pressure, seismic and thermal loading considerations, as well as finite element analysis of the large diameter nozzle to shell connections. The shop drawing production included complex geometric configurations with segmented elbows and intersections, stiffened bifurcations and plate layouts.

New Duplex Stainless Steel Digester

Energy Savings For Food Processing Industry

AEC Engineering provided feasibility, design, specification and construction phase services related to the challenging removal and replacement of an existing brick lined digester with a new duplex stainless steel vessel, increasing capacity while using the same vessel footprint. AEC welding engineers developed welding, material handling and quality control specifications for this project. The project was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget, thus reducing the cost of lost production time.

For multiple clients, AEC Engineering has applied its wide-ranging expertise to the saving of energy, water, and other important resources in a variety of food plants. Among the most dramatic success stories was a large meat processing facility for which AEC identified—and implemented—huge electricity and thermal energy conservation jobs that had previously been considered by the client but rejected due to there having been insufficient technical know-how available on site. At the end of the multi-year program, AEC and the customer had successfully installed a half-dozen measures all of which had a simple economic payback of less than four years.
